I finally decided I wanted more rumble & went for the de-baffle.

I still want to get the rest of the "Mickey plate" out (that's the part with the 2 little "mouse ear" holes. Friend Dan & I cut the hole in it but word on the street is if I can get the rest of it out the sound will be lower & a little quieter.

drilling volusia pipes
If the sound of the stock pipes are a bit too tame for your taste, here's a great simple and free fix. My bike now has a "throatier" more "beefy" idle and sound through all the gears--it's got that V-twin "rumble."

tools needed:
-  1/2" drill bit (may want to start with a smaller size bit for a pilot hole)
-  drill
-  punch
-  hammer

directions:
1. Use the hammer & punch to create a dimple
2. Drill a hole with the smaller bit
3. Now use the 1/2" bit
4. Repeat for the number of holes you'd like

FAQs:
-  The metal in the end of the pipes is typical thin muffler material---it drills very easily.

-  More holes = more volume and different sound.
I drilled one hole in each pipe, then drove around through all gears. I repeated that procedure
until the number of holes produced a sound that my ears liked. I stopped at 3.  A lot of guys like
4 and then still others like 8. I've even seen a guy put a screw in a hole because he got it too l
   oud.

-  Don't worry about the shavings--won't hurt a thing.

-  This won't affect in carbeauation adjustments. There is another set of baffles further up in the
pipes, so mods at this set of baffles don't affect the engine.

-  People won't see the holes unless they bend over to look up into your pipes--this cosmetically goes unnoticed.

These are my pipes.

I found the comment about drilling a pilot hole
after
I did mine--that's why my holes aren't very precise.

Ok, I think I have a problem...I may be a
"hole-a-holic
"...I now have SIX holes in each pipe...
"Eight is enough" for some.
