Southside Minor League 2004

Slater cheered on his teamates from the dugout through the 1st half of the season as his arm was in a cast from wrestling season.

But he bounced back quickly and started in left field and played third base on occasion.  I jokingly call him "the arm" as he can throw the ball farther and with more accuracy than nearly if not all his peers.

He's 8,  just finishing up 2nd grade.  This is his second year in minor league.
Slater "the arm" Young...
Seriously -- this "big" guy can bring the heat!
Slate asks before this picture, "Do you want me to smile or be serious?"

"Your call," I say.

Of course he brings his patented and favorite "I'm all business" face ;-)
It took him a few games to get his bat speed up coming off the broken left arm.

But he's connecting pretty regularly -- he dinged a double in the regular season closer.
