Cub Cadet Mulch Upgrade Dec '17
I bought this Cub Cadet XT2 in the Fall of 2016. I loved everything about this mower except the mulch guard had a 1" gap so the mower would "poop out" this annoying line of clippings down every row. I googled it and many others had the same problem and no good solution.
I went to Lowes and bought a 2" wide piece of aluminum.
I traced the curve of the mulch guard on a piece of 2"x6" and cut out the piece of wood, creating a form in which to shape the aluminum.
I drilled holes in the aluminum.
Put the wood in a vice, hammer it around the wood and force it to shape with some small wood screws.
Remove the wood screws.
Place the aluminum on the mulch guard, drill through the plastic guard, one at a time (drill it, put the machine screw & nut in, move to the next one etc.)
Before I used an angle grinder to cut off the excess bolts, I placed another nut on each bolt. (I should've just picked up some plastic lock nuts when I was at Lowes.)
You can see that some clippings get caught in the slight gap--that's no problem and actually keeps any more clippings from getting out.
I also upgraded to Gator Blades and this mod with those blades = fabulous results!
